introduction

The European Network of National Observatories on Childhood carries out activities of analysis and research and of documentation and communication .

Analysis and research

The first activity of ChildONEurope is to provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge and information among its Members and Associated Members.

ChildONEurope has initiated its analysis with questionnaires for the collection and comparison of statistical data and information on the issues of: demography and family composition, adoption

and placement, abuse, social exclusion and unaccompanied foreign children.

ChildONEurope also organises conferences and seminars on issues of special relevance, such as the 2006 Seminar on post adoption and the 2007 seminar on child abuse.

Documentation and communication

In the carrying out of its activities, ChildONEurope is supported by the documentation services offered by the Biblioteca Innocenti Library ( www.biblioteca.istitutodeglinnocenti.it ), which is one of the few in the world specialised in children's rights.

ChildONEurope activities are publicised and disseminated mainly through its web site: www.childoneurope.org . The website presents ChildONEurope's history, aims and activities and contains the working documents produced by the Network. The website also offers a series of services for ChildONEurope Associated Members, as well as for its users, such as links to the websites of the most important international governmental and non governmental organisations and universities centres working on childhood related matters, the EU programmes and call for tenders that may be related to childhood and the indication of events, such as conferences, seminars and courses taking place at European level.

Furthermore the Secretariat prepares reports , brochures and CD-Roms on the Network's activities.

The Secretariat also keeps information links with other international governmental and non governmental organisations working on childhood related issues.
